Advanced Investigative Statement Analysis
Advanced Investigative Statement Analysis & Workshop is for students who have completed the training course, "Investigative Statement Analysis; Truth through what they SAID". Students who attend this advanced course will have the opportunity to build upon their knowledge and skills learned through training and the application of the techniques in the field. This 3-Day course is highly interactive and will include a lot of time analyzing statements as we discuss more complex concepts of the analysis of language and thought, and it will provide deeper understanding of what is being said by the individual, whether in a written statement or during an interview. We will also discuss how the words that we use as investigators when communicating can positively or negatively influence the outcome of interviews. The majority of the class time will be spent on practical exercises of doing the analysis on real statements and cases, providing insights and getting feedback. Students will also be encouraged to bring their own written statements on solved or unsolved cases and we can work on them as a class project(s). We will also discuss multiple suspect elimination techniques through statement analysis questionnaires as well interviewing strategies based upon the analysis of written statements. This will help the students learn to prioritize potential suspects as well as developing a strategy for follow-up interviewing.
*CT POSTC* Students will receive 18 hours of training credit for Curriculum Area 500/503: Criminal Investigations/Interviewing Techniques and Skills
