Situational Awareness/Mindfulness within Investigative Interviews
There is an attack on our attention within our current society. It seems now more than ever people are distracted, multi-tasking and being pulled in several directions at the same time. This leads to a lack of awareness of what’s happening around you, and people end up going through their day in a mindless manner, almost like being on autopilot. Unfortunately, this lack of awareness and mindlessness occurs within investigative interviews and criminal interrogations as well. The result is often missed opportunities for follow-up questioning, missing valuable information, and missing cues to truthfulness and/or deception, and in some cases, missing signs of danger. During this 1-Day training, students will learn techniques to limit distractions, improve focus and be mentally present throughout the interview process. Improving mindfulness has been shown to increase the capacity of working memory, which is essential during complex investigative interviews and criminal interrogations. The skills will enhance the interviewing process and are transferable to other aspects of the student’s professional and personal life as well.
